Benefits of Eating Smaller Portions

At Eatfitters, we help get our customers on the right track through our ORT 21 plan which involves 21 days of an effective organized meal plan. The ORT 21 plan allows you to commit to eating three meals a day including 2 snacks for three weeks. Each meal is designed with your health in mind. After 21 days, your body will be used to eating smaller meals as it will become part of your lifestyle.

The following is a breakdown of the benefits of eating smaller portioned meals.

1) Higher Metabolism
- By eating smaller meals frequently, you can train your body to modify the metabolism from low to high. A higher metabolism allows your body to burn calories more frequently.

2) Reduction in Fat and Sugar per Meal
- A smaller meal will usually carry less fat, less sugar, and less calories compared to a larger meal. This reduction will allow your body’s metabolism to tackle a small set of fat and calories without leaving too much unused fat to be stored in your body.

3) Decrease Chance of Overeating
- A small portion meal will help prevent you from overeating. This prevention will help in reducing the intake of unnecessary fats, sugars, and calories.

4) More Energy
- Have you ever felt sluggish after eating a heavy meal? The cause is most likely due to taking more calories than your body can handle at a time. The extra fat and sugar can slow your body down, which equals the feeling of having less energy. A small portioned meal of a healthy balanced diet will give your body what it really needs.

Coffee: Friend or Foe

Coffee has been shown lately to have many health benefits as long as you do not consume it on an empty stomach which will only slow down your metabolism.

1. Coffee Can Help You Burn Fat and Improves Physical Performance

Caffeine raises the metabolic rate and helps to mobilize fatty acids from the fat tissues. It can also enhance physical performance.

2. Coffee May Drastically Lower Your Risk of Type II Diabetes

Drinking coffee is associated with a drastically reduced risk of type II diabetes. People who drink several cups per day are the least likely to become diabetic.

3. Coffee May Lower Your Risk of Alzheimer's Parkinson's

Coffee is associated with a much lower risk of dementia and the neurodegenerative disorders Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.

4. Coffee is Loaded with Nutrients and Antioxidants

Coffee also contains a massive amount of antioxidants. In fact, coffee is the biggest source of antioxidants in the western diet outranking both fruits and vegetables combined.

Eatfitters will now be serving 99 cent organic coffee with the purchase of a breakfast meal.

Benefits of Eating Shrimp

This is for the shrimp lovers!

Did you know it is a misconception of shrimp being high in fat?

In fact, shrimp is generally low in total fat which also means it is low in saturated fat. It is a type of food that can be enjoyed in the healthy lifestyle without punishing your body for eating it. Shrimp can go with almost any type of food while maintaining a great seafood taste.

Besides the taste, shrimp when consumed carries numerous healthy benefits and we will be happy to break down the benefits of eating shrimp.

1) Protein
According to the Institute of Medicine, it is recommended for a person to get 8 grams of protein for every 20 pounds of your body weight on a daily basis. By eating about 6 ounces of shrimp, you will be able to get more than 34 grams of protein for your daily consumption. If you're working out intensively to gain muscle weight or trying to lose weight in the process, your body needs the protein to repair your damaged muscles.

2) Iron
Did you know you could become anemic if you do not get enough iron in your diet?

The answer is yes and the lack of iron could lead to fatigue, shortness of breath, and other health related issues. To make sure you take full of advantage from eating the shrimp, it is recommended to take vitamin C with your shrimp to absorb your iron intake.

3) Vitamin B-12
To prevent muscle weakness, vision issues, and other healthy related problems, a daily intake of B-12 vitamins can contribute to prevention. The recommended intake of vitamin B-12 is about 2.4 mcg per day, but eating 6 ounces of shrimp will contribute about 2 mcg's.

At Eatfitters', we believe in the benefits of shrimp which is why we offer a couple of shrimp meals in our menu.

We recommend trying out the following dishes at Eatfitters'.
1) Shrimp Jambalaya
2) Couscous Shrimp Salad

Why Should We Eat 5 Times a Day?

"I am not hungry in the morning."

"I don't have time to eat."

"I would rather eat my calories at lunch or dinner."

I have heard all these statements from clients over the years. But we know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, just ask any mom out there. And yes she is right!  Why?  When you eat at 7am it begins your day and starts your metabolism.  If you wait until 12pm or 1pm to eat again you are more likely to overeat because you will need more calories to satiate that hunger.  When you do eat at 12pm your body thinks that you are in starvation mode and puts all those calories in fat storage.

Eating every 2 ½ to 3 hours is key to speeding up your metabolism.  The food is considered fuel to your metabolism and the more healthy food spread out thought out the day the more likely your metabolism is to speed up and burn at a faster rate.

Another important reason to eat 5 times a day is to maintain proper blood sugar levels.  This is important to  healthy people not only diabetics.  When you are eating properly 5 times a day you have small rise and fall of your blood sugar.  If you are consuming 3 large meals you will have huge spikes and crashes of your blood sugar levels which will cause fatigue and cause havoc on your body’s natural process.

Finally, the last reason to eat 5 times a day is to increase your chances of meeting all your recommended daily allowances for vitamins/minerals.  Research has shown that people that each 5 to 6 times a day are more likely to vary their diet than those that eat 2 or 3 extremely large meals which helps to keep their body good health.
